We stick with Gallium Iodide (GaI) lamps for a simple reason: they punch through. Standard mercury lamps are fine for thin stuff, but GaI shifts the light to longer wavelengths. That means the UV actually gets deep into heavy inks and thick fabrics instead of just bouncing off the surface. Getting the cure right Here’s the thing about pigmented textile inks—they can be stubborn. If you use a basic lamp, you often end up with a “skin-dry” finish. It looks okay on top, but underneath? It’s still wet. GaI lamps hit the ink with a heavy dose of UV-A and UV-B. This triggers a reaction that locks everything together. You get a cure that’s hard and scratch-resistant all the way through. No peeling, no smudging. Just a solid finish. The heat struggle Now, it’s not all magic. These lamps pack a punch, and that power creates a lot of heat. If your conveyor belt is crawling, you’re going to scorch your fabric. It happens. To stop that, you’ve got to be smart about your cooling. Get some decent fans and exhaust hoods in there to suck that heat away the second the fabric leaves the lamp. It’s the only way to keep your materials from frying. Keeping them running You can’t just plug these in and forget about them. Over time, the Gallium Iodide compound wears down. Your UV intensity drops, and suddenly, your ink isn’t curing like it used to. We suggest checking your milliwatt output every 500 hours. Once the numbers dip, just swap the tube. We use drop-in replacements so you aren’t staring at a dead production line for half a day.
